JASON GARCIA TATTOO PROFILE

So Jason whats new?
Nothing really, Just doing the work thing and family man thing, with other exciting events sprinkled in it all.

Where you from?
I was born in in the bay area, but moved to Sonora when I was like 4 or 5 and have been here ever since.

Years?
196 in dog years

How long have you been doing tattoos?
Not too long in the grand scheme of things. From the first one I did I would say 2 or 3 years but the ammount of time I really get to do them I feel like a year or so. I was hanging out at highland in jamestown (R.I.P.) getting some work done and I asked my buddy if I could give it a wirl. So a little of this and a little of that and here I am today. I wouldn't be able to do any of it if it weren't for all the cats at Higland, so I am realy greatful to have learned a little from Matt, Chuck and Tim.  Thanks Dudes!!!

Whats your favorite style?
I really like any of the old traditional work, and some of the neo traditional i guess you call it. I really like it all and wish I could learn to do other styles it just comes to the time thing to put into it and I really don't have much time to spread out with work and all.

Inspirations?
My Wife and Daughter, Different types of art like photos, oil paintings, graffiti. Lots of music, beer, motorcycles and skateboards. Pretty much life in general is an inspiration, just taking as much in as I can

You just built this new shed not long ago. Beats doing them in your dining room. You got a name for it?
uh...I guess I call it the man room. It really came about just cause I didn't want too many people in the house late at night doing a tattoo and everyone waking up the baby, so I just needed something that I could separate that side of my work from the famiy side of things.

So i heard you had a little accident with a chains saw recently. Care to explain?
Oh..yeah. I was on the station fire in L.A. and was carrying a saw to do some brush clearing so we could put the hot spots out. My foot caught a branch on the ground and I tripped, threw the saw down and it bounced up cutting my arm. I got 12 sweet stitches out of it. The sad part of the whole deal is that the saw was off.

How many tattoos do you have?
I say 6 now. both arms, side, chest, back and lower leg.

Which is your favorite?
I would say the new Ruby on my chest, for my little girl

Ever given yourself a tattoo?
yeah, but i was just coloring them in. I am too much of a puss to do a whole one.

So you work for the Forest Service...Have you put much thought into working for a shop, or are you pretty much full-time in the forest?
I would go to a shop in a heart beat, but you can beat the benifits and cool traveling and pretty much be paid to play with fire. I am also pretty committed with the time invested, but I always have something different to fall back on if there ever is anything that were to shake me up with what I do.

Been on any crazy fires this year?
Actuall no!!! It has been a REALLY slow year this year. I think we need to get rid of the whole smokey the bear thing for a season or 2 to get people back into being careless in the woods.

How do people get hold of you if they want some ink done?
For the most part its just a friend of a friend thing, but you can contact me through that silly myspace shit. I also want to let people know that I am always willing to work with them on an idea, but if I don't feel comfortable with the art or my abilities on the project, then I will not tackle it. I want people to be happy with what they are getting and not pissed. after all, its a side hobby of mine.
